How Does It Work?

FINDING THE RIGHT PSYCHOLOGIST

  • Choosing a psychologist can feel unfamiliar or overwhelming.

  • Below are answers to common questions to help guide you.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Session Duration:

    • First session: ~60 minutes

    • Follow-up sessions: ~50 minutes

    • A 10-minute phone call with Celeste helps determine if she’s the right fit for you. This call allows you to ask any questions before starting therapy.

  • Appointment Availability:

    • There is often a short waiting period before your first session.

    • Regularly scheduled sessions (usually fortnightly) are recommended for effective progress.

  • Session Options:

    • Available in person (Sutherland practice) or online (telehealth).

  • GP Referral:

    • Not required unless you want to claim Medicare rebates.

    • If you need a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHCP), book a longer appointment with your GP.

  • First Session Expectations:

    • Feeling nervous is normal.

    • Celeste will ask questions to understand your experiences and tailor therapy to suit you.

  • Assessments:

    • Celeste does not conduct formal diagnostic assessments.

PAYMENT OF FEES

  • Telehealth Sessions:
Payment via EFT bank transfer the day before your appointment.

  • In-Person Sessions:
Payment via tap at the time of your session.

MEDICARE AND PRIVATE HEALTH FUND

  • Medicare Rebates:

    • With an MHCP and GP referral, you are eligible for 6 Medicare-rebated sessions initially. After a GP review, you may be referred for 4 additional sessions (maximum 10 per calendar year).

    • Additional sessions beyond this can be privately funded.

  • Rebate Amount:

    • Medicare rebate is approximately $96 per session (a gap payment will apply).

  • Processing Claims:

    • Celeste does not process Medicare rebates—you will need to claim them yourself.

  • Private Health Insurance:

    • Some plans cover psychology sessions—check with your insurer.

    • Celeste does not submit claims, but you will receive a receipt for reimbursement.
